It´s been a while...

But then, I´ve been busy and feeling a little drained, and when I´m like that, I really don´t much feel like writing; or anything else, for that matter (as you could probably tell from the sparse descriptions of late).

Anyway... I hope I can get things back on track soon.

OK, and the real reason behind this message is to tell you about two new Panoramio services; user RSS and user KML feeds (as opposed to global feeds). So now you can see where my images were taken (at least, those that I´ve uploaded to Panoramio, of course) in googleearth www.panoramio.com/userkml/1015… and with your favorite news aggregator www.panoramio.com/userfeed/101…

Changing subject a bit... last Sunday (20060402) I had, for the first time some use for the "sports" setting on my camera. And it was great fun too, "shooting from the hip". Took some great shots with my spanking new 100-300mm f/4.5-6.7 DL Sigma... un fortunately, I had to take it back because it´s an older model and doesn´t play along very well with Canon digitals. Luckily I figured that out Saturday, so I was able to avoid the picture modes that locked the camera. I´d previously only tried it in manual, one of the modes that works flawlessly. And it´s just a frigging shame, because I really liked that lens! Compact, faster than may other 100-300mm (good thing I didn´t rush to sell it) and amazing results under quite disfavorable shooting conditions.

Hope to write again soon.

[update]I just bought me a nice Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3. Should arrive in 5 working days... so I´m expecting it about Tuesday next week.

[update2]Just got a mail telling me it should arrive Monday morning :)

Calibrating your monitor for viewing photographs correctly

The strip shows a range of greys from pure black to pure white. You should be able to see a clear difference between each shade of grey, ranging from pure black (left) and pure white (right).

Along the top of the strips are alternate patches of black and dark grey. If it looks solid black to you (look very carefully), your monitor's brightness setting is too low. Increase it until you can -just- perceive the difference between the grey and the black squares.

Pass this along in your journals, it will help new and old deviants view your work as it should be seen!

Do you shoot RAW like I do? Then support the OpenRaw initiative.

"Photographers will find their older images inaccessible, as future software versions lose support for older cameras. In the worst cases, entire brands may disappear, as has already happened with Contax."
